Virtual Session?!
2020 was a crazy year! In the midst of Covid a lot of businesses had to temporarily close, mine included, but a bunch of us photographers still needed to pay the bills and stay creative while trying not to go stir crazy. Thus virtual webcam sessions came to be!
Even after reopening there has still been an interest in these virtual sessions. It's great for those who love your work but don't live near or can't travel. I love them because it's a great reminder that it isn't gear that makes a photographer, it's all about the eye and art! (plus I don't have to wear pants, kidding, maybe). One of my pet peeves is hearing people say to photographers "wow your camera takes great photos". Let's challenge that concept.
So how does it work?
I personally have found the best outcome by using FaceTime! Apple has a cool setting that allows its user to enable live photos while on a FaceTime call which allows me to remotely use your phone camera to take the photos but they save to my camera roll! I give you directions on where to place your phone, what the best lighting is, and how to pose yourself! Don't have an Apple phone or computer? Don't worry there's an app for android that allows me to do the same thing!
Afterward, I edit them and even shoot them on the phone like products.
They obviously aren't of high resolution or quality (besides the product images) and aren't meant to be blown up in print but they are a lot of fun and a creative challenge!
